our 24 hour temperature change, it's slightly milder out there. a really nice start to your friday if you like it warm. today is going to be another warm one. as we look at your 9:00 temperature we will be looking at temperatures already approaching the 70s inland 80 by noontime around the bay will be in the low 70s around noontime for upper 70s around 4 or 5:00. and then at the coast, you notice it's going to stay cool right on through the afternoon. we'll get into a little sun there, but then we're going to talk about a cool down that arrives for a few days, really into the weekend and beyond. good morning amanda. >> good morning lisa. we're keeping our eyes on the sigalert . this is a deadly crash in palo alto. the northbound lanes of 101 were impacted. right now, the left lane is the only lane that's open. you can see speeds are still down to two miles per hour. this is a three vehicle crash. we only learned about that third vehicle in the last 15 minutes. this is at northbound 101 and san antonio road. this is in the commute direction, so it's definitely

going to be a headache for those trying to come up north. so instead take 280 or el camino to get around it. or you can even exit shoreline and take bayshore and then get back on the oregon expressway. uh- traffic is stopped to north shoreline boulevard, back to the desk. >> donald trump now has something that no other former president has. he's a convicted felon. a jury found him guilty on all 34 felony counts in his hush money trial. trump will be sentenced in july. >> now, his attorneys say they will appeal. both republicans and democrats are trying to use this moment to gain support as election day gets closer. abc news reporter perry russom live in washington, dc with more on this historic conviction. good morning. >> and good morning. and trump is getting support on capitol hill from other republicans. house speaker mike johnson calls the verdict absurd president trump defiant in the face of his felony conviction.

>> this was a rigged, disgraceful trial that the real verdict is going to be november fifth by the people. >> after becoming the first former us president convicted on criminal charges. trump, heading to a fundraiser in new york city, never surrender, his campaign says their fundraising website was overwhelmed with donations, causing the site to crash. democrats also looking to cash in president biden posting a link to his fundraising website minutes after the verdict. there were celebrations outside the courthouse as trump was found guilty on all 34 felony charges in his hush money trial over payments made to former adult film actress stormy daniels before the 2016 election. questions remain over how this will affect the race for the white house, an abc news ipsos poll from earlier this month finds 80% of trump supporters say they would continue to back trump. if he's convicted, 16% say they'd reconsider. 4% would no longer support trump's attorney, saying they will appeal the conviction

and trump is scheduled to be sentenced on july 11th, just days before the republican national convention in milwaukee . trump has a news conference this morning. in just about two hours. kumasi and reggie aqui, back to you. >> thank you. perry, a national representative for the california republican national committee, is critical of the finding. >> this verdict is a disgrace for the american legal system. it was rigged from the beginning by a biased judge who should have recused himself if there were flawed jury instructions, improper evidence, improper denial of the admission of relevant evidence of a case that was rejected at the state, federal and regulatory fec level by multiple prosecutors who could have brought this case. this is the first time in history in new york that a documents and records case has been charged as a felony. >> harmeet dhillon was also critical of the judge for

tracking a deadly car crash on the peninsula. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez just got to that scene in palo alto on highway 101. and gloria, what can you tell us? >> yeah. you know, kumasi, i was just talking to chp here, and i'm getting new information about this crash. first of all, i want to tell you there's some major backups here. so if you can avoid this area, definitely take those alternate routes. but i want to show you this sign right here because chp on the scene is telling me that a driver hit that green billboard, and that's when the driver was disabled, started veering off to the left, and tells me, chp, that at some point the driver got out of their car and two cars then rammed into that car. a big rig eventually did crash into that vehicle as it was moving to the shoulder. and that person, unfortunately, who was in that vehicle did die. now, we don't know when this is going to reopen. this is over on northbound 101, just north of the san antonio on ramp here in

palo alto. and all three cars were involved. and this happened before 3:00 this morning. so you can see the big mess here right now. right now the left lane is open. so cars are moving, but it is moving pretty slowly at this time. and chp does tell us they want to remind everybody that if you ever get into any kind of situation like this, always important to stay in your car. so we'll stay out here. we'll bring you the very latest. live in palo alto, gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> gloria. thank you. breaking overnight, pro-palestinian protesters were met with a massive police presence at uc santa cruz. new video this morning shows dozens of officers in riot gear, face to face with chanting protesters! police are also seen trying to take down a barricade set up by the protesters yesterday. it was blocking the entrance at coolidge and high streets. officers heard on video telling students they would be arrested if they did not disperse. it's not clear yet if any arrests

were actually made in the east bay. >> classes resume as normal today for california high school students in san ramon. >> students and staff were on lockdown most of the day yesterday after a bomb scare. authorities say a male called and threatened the campus, saying explosive devices were placed throughout the school. he also said someone would shoot up the school now. police didn't find a bomb but they are continuing to investigate the origins of that call. >> it's friday, we want to make sure that you're ready for the weekend, and this weekend is a big event in san francisco, expected to bring about 25,000 people to the civic center area. it'll also have a big impact on traffic. amanda is here with what you need to know. yeah reggie, we told you about this earlier this week. >> the event is that rave at civic center plaza. popular electronic djs skrillex and fred again announced the rave last week on x. the show was already sold out, street closures already began earlier this week, causing headaches for some drivers and more. closures will begin today and last until

the airport. we're looking at that clear start at sfo. and temperatures will be coming up through the 70s, even maybe 80. redwood city today, 61 by the delta, 58 in concord, 52. santa rosa. there's our patchy fog. so 6:00 this morning. notice it kind of hugs the san mateo coast and it wants to stay there really throughout the afternoon. so that's why we're going to be hard pressed to make it even around 60 degrees in spots elsewhere. plenty of sunshine. and then as we get into friday night, early saturday morning, that fog is a little bit more widespread. it's going to move across the bay. and then with the winds kicking up, it's going to set the stage for a cooler saturday, a cooler sunday and then a cooler monday. look at the winds here throughout the day. today very light. then the sea breeze gets going 20 to 30 miles in an hour. and then as we get into your weekend, check it out. that's why we're going to be so cool. those breezy onshore winds allowing san francisco over 30 mile an hour wind gusts even into livermore. but if we go beyond that and check out the next seven days in oakland,

200 new officers by 2025, the mayor has told other city departments to prepare for 10 to 15% in spending cuts. san francisco's annual budget is about $14 billion. >> former san francisco mayor and current candidate for mayor, mark farrell, is revealing a plan to subsidize child care and expand child care facilities. farrell is challenging mayor london breed for her seat in the november election. he says voters approved a tax in 2018, and so far it's collected $400 million. that has gone unused. known as baby prop c, it was designed to provide early care and education for kids up to five years old whose families are low income. >> we will offer subsidies to help low and middle income parents and guardians afford local child care services. we will also provide low interest loans and reduce taxes and fees for property owners who repurpose their existing spaces,

so we can create and expand the existing child care facilities, the mayor's office says. >> the mayor has used prop c funds. she's doubled the number of children receiving early care and education subsidies, cut the wait list for care subsidies by more than 70, and built or renovated 40 early care and education facilities in the last five years, mayor breed's campaign spokesman said, quote, mayor breed is taking the next step in her budget through a landmark policy to provide child care vouchers to middle income working families, cementing san francisco's position as a national leader in child care and early education. happening today, the city of oakland is kicking off pride month. community leaders and officials, including mayor shang tao, will raise the pride flag at city hall. that event starts at 1130 this morning, and it's san francisco pride month officially begins tomorrow with a new purple pride block party. >> the san francisco lgbt center in the castro district is hosting the event. the party

and low 50s from san francisco and oakland. sutro has you can see a little bit of haze out there 61 by the delta still that 46 in petaluma. so cool with the clear night up in the north bay. 55 napa. and we will be looking at temperatures cooling off over the weekend. breezy and cloudier . this is monday, so monday will start out foggy and actually our inland valleys warming to the low to mid 80s. so pretty nice for our inland communities. while the bay shore and san francisco the coast will have the fog, the breezy winds throughout the morning hours lingering into the early afternoon. look what happens tuesday. temperatures spike. we're at the mid to upper 90 inland with 80s over in oakland, 70 san francisco. the coast is even going to warm up a little bit. and as we get into wednesday, this could be the warmest day we have seen all year, with near 100 degree heat inland. so certainly you want to keep that in mind if you're making plans for next week, look at that 100 degrees in calistoga , and we're still holding on to

a lawsuit filed by a local development firm stalled this project for about a year. but according to our media partners at the east bay times, the firm withdrew its lawsuit against the city. so this new costco will be built at the lone tree plaza shopping center. it will include more than 154,000ft■!s of warehouse space. there will be a gas station, too. construction will start as early as this summer. mochi muffin maker third culture is moving out of san francisco. the berkeley based company is closing its inner sunset location. they announced it on their their instagram account. they said it was just too hard to retain team members and it put a strain on existing store operations. they closed their former mission district location in 2023. third culture

says they will be ramping up offerings at their berkeley and walnut creek locations. next, at 630, family friendly beer festival. the event, planned at salesforce park to kick off this summer's beer week and celebrating italian culture. the two day festival happening this weekend in san francisco's north beach. a lot going on. we got to check in with

bay shore and near 90 inland. we do have changes for the weekend. it is going to cool down. we'll have breezy onshore winds. we'll get to all the details about that. and a look at your seven day outlook, which includes heat coming up. good morning amanda. >> good morning lisa. it is far from friday light especially for those who rely on northbound 101 through palo alto. we've been tracking the sigalert all morning long. the crash happened at three and involved three vehicles. this is at san antonio road. we are learning that speeds are improving. we saw you last was only seven miles per hour. now 21mph. but this is a look from a caltrans cam showing you that backup it's going to be impacting the commute, of course because this is in commute direction. we do have abc7 news reporter gloria rodriguez on scene, who can tell you more about what's happening live. >> good morning amanda. good morning to everyone at home. yeah there are some big backups here. and right now the left lane is open. chp on the scene

has been telling me that they're hoping to reopen the entire freeway within the next 5 to 10 minutes, and they're also giving me new information about what happened here. they tell me that somebody was driving on the freeway when they crashed into this green billboard right there. they say that driver veered to the left, and at some point the driver got out of the car. a scion rear ended the car, and then a big rig crashed into the hyundai while it was going onto the shoulder. and they think the driver must have been out of the car because that man was under the car and unfortunately died. now this is northbound 101 north of the san antonio avenue onramp in palo alto. and this happened before 3:00 this morning. and again right now the left lane is open, but there are some big backups and they're continuing to clean up out here. there are tow trucks. a lot of police officers out here, and they are still investigating this crash, but they are hoping to reopen the freeway in 5 to 10 minutes. and

chp out here on the scene says it's also a good reminder if you ever come across some kind of a situation like that where you hit something, it's important to stay in your car. live in palo alto, gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> yeah, that is a terrible reminder, but thank you for telling it to us. this morning. the conviction being seen around the world, donald trump's conviction on 34 felony counts tied to the hush money payment on the front page of newspapers from san francisco to europe. the historic moment coming after ten hours of deliberations, trump plans to hold a news conference at trump tower and just about 90 minutes. so that should be at around 8:00 this morning. we will bring that to you live on our streaming platform. >> those cameras were not allowed inside the courtroom, but sketches show the former president closing his eyes as that verdict was read. a short time later, he addressed people outside the courtroom, vowing to keep fighting and turning his attention to the election.

high streets. officers were heard on video telling students they would be arrested if they did not disperse. it's not clear if any arrests were made. this comes as uc officials are calling on the state labor board to end a massive strike underway by thousands of student workers. those students are protesting the uk's handling of pro-palestinian protests. kumasi. >> thank you amanda. happening today. it is day for the state trial against david depape. he is the man you see here on the screen, already convicted in federal court of assaulting the husband of speaker emerita nancy pelosi. now, paul pelosi is expected to testify today about the day he was attacked with a hammer in his san francisco home. this is coming after a dramatic recording from october 2022 was played in court yesterday. depape explains why he broke into the pelosi home. we can't play sound of that police interview. but depape becomes angry, emotional and says he believes nancy pelosi was a part of a conspiracy to

steal the election from donald trump. adam gassner is a longtime san francisco defense attorney who's been keeping up on the trial. >> well, it's unclear whether he's going to testify, but if you hear his voice and you hear his ramblings or his rantings, the shake in his voice, the oddity of the way he speaks, it gives real insight into what he was le at that time. >> also in court yesterday, the neurosurge surgeon who operated on paul pelosi showed a dramatic cat scan. it shows a dent in his head about the size of a silver dollar. all of this is setting the stage for the testimony of paul pelosi today. things could change, though. late yesterday, attorneys for depape said he's not feeling well, and the judge says that if he has covid, the trial will be postponed for a few days. this is one of the most amazing stories we've seen of delayed justice. >> a man convicted of rape across the country has actually been hiding here in the east bay for 16 years. he's now set to be

extradited. twin kit lee was convicted in 2007, in quincy, massachusetts. police say he was mass when he broke in to a waitress's home and raped her at knifepoint. that victim worked at lee's family restaurant. she was able to identify him by telling police the suspect had bad breath like her boss. before his sentencing, lee fled the state. quincy's police chief says a tip led them to diablo, where lee was living under a fake name, with the woman, who apparently had no idea who he actually was. the u.s. marshals service had tabs on him for a while. they took him into custody on tuesday. >> he had a pretty regular routine, so they came up with a plan out there that, that they were going to basically affect a motor vehicle, stop and take him into custody. >> lee is set to be extradited back to massachusetts for sentencing. >> new at six san francisco police have reportedly picked the mission district for the first two police owned surveillance cameras in the

city. according to mission, local police chief bill scott held a community meeting this week where he announced the cameras are going to be placed on mission street at 19th and 24th streets. this is coming after voters approved proposition e back in march to expand police power throughout the city. police say the new cameras could help investigate crimes like homicide, assault, rape and arson. these cameras will be labeled with large blue signs within 25ft of their locations. we're learning more about one. city leaders plan to bring a new kind of 4th of july celebration to san francisco. district four supervisor joel engardio says a parade in his own backyard, the outer sunset, could be the start of a new tradition for san francisco. so here's the plan. the parade will be hosted on the great park, the great highway, which closes to traffic and transforms the park on the weekends. now, the only

the self-checkouts are disappearing, according to the chronicle, safeway has removed them from some of its stores because of increasing theft. it's a trend that's been happening across the country. employees at oakland's rockridge neighborhood on broadway say that the self checkouts have been closed for two weeks now. the emeryville and fillmore district locations have also removed their kiosks, but they didn't say when. >> a celebration to mark the reopening of the capitola wharf is now postponed. the wharf was closed last year after a storm damaged the structure. work to repair the deck rail and pilings is set to be finished in june,

but other items like new benches, trash cans and artwork won't be installed in time for the august celebration. while the wharf may reopen in august. the grand reopening event won't now happen until sometime in september. >> a former professor at santa clara university has been sentenced to five years in prison for setting fires during the massive dixie fire in 2021. federal prosecutors say gary stephen maynard of san jose purposely set fires in the shasta-trinity national forest behind firefighters, effectively surrounding them with flames. the dixie fire, east of chico, was the largest single wildfire in california history. >> a new civil grand jury report is critical of san francisco's efforts to curb the use of illegal fireworks, the report says. san francisco has little to no coordination among city departments to prevent the use of illegal fireworks. last year, six people were treated for injuries related to their use. around july 4th. the civil grand jury recommends san francisco

create an illegal fireworks workgroup within the department of emergency management. >> now, a story of courage and forgiveness involving two people who, a year ago, were on opposite sides of a brutal crime. now they want to build a better bay area. >> so i'm kind of like defenseless because my hands are here and he just comes down and just like pops me like that. >> so this is peterson harder, owner of sandy's muffulettas in san francisco's haight ashbury neighborhood almost a year ago now. he was assaulted by a man caught urinating outside of his shop. ten days later, ervin rivera was arrested. rivera served several months in jail for that attack. now fast forward to this week. rivera paid another visit to the shop to apologize. harder posted photos with rivera on social media, saying that he is grateful for their latest encounter. >> i think it shows a lot of his character, and his rehabilitation. i mean, for me,

degrees here from the upper 50s to those low 90s inland. it's 59 in hayward, 53 san francisco. half moon bay has been in the mid 40s. and then the fog slowly creeping in 55 in napa, chilly petaluma. but with that clear start you expect that 61 by the delta. the winds are calm right now, but we'll get that sea breeze into play later on today. the warm temperatures inland, breezy and cooler for everyone today i should say saturday, sunday and into monday. so there's our weekend. cool down summerlike sizzle arrives into next week. so upper 50s half moon bay. there's your fog across into san francisco. it should be pleasant in the mid 60s across the bay into oakland. we're in the low 70s. upper 80s walnut creek 90 for you in our inland valleys. here's a look at next week, monday, where we'll continue that trend of pleasant weather inland, but certainly cooler and breezier from the bay shore to san francisco. look what happens on tuesday. temperatures jump up dramatically into the mid to

upper 90s inland, even around the bay, looking at a lot of 80s 80s in oakland, san francisco will enjoy several 70 degree days. the coast beginning to warm a bit wednesday, looking to be one of the warmest days. this is the first time we've seen triple digit heat in some time. it could last into thursday inland, and as we look around the bay, it is toasty out there. some heat risk is associated with this, so if you're planning anything outdoors next week, you're going to want to keep the forecast in mind as to how long and how extensive this heat wave will be. so the early look right now, the accuweather seven day forecast shows a similar day today compared to yesterday, upper 50s to near 90 into your saturday. it's cooler. we've got fog and then that heat arrives by next week. >> thank you lisa, have you ever heard of a family friendly beer festival where beer. well, beer bottle brewing company is hosting the first of its kind this summer. and the kids are welcome. the festival is called suds san francisco, and it's

records. you know, we got to take you out there live to see what they're doing right now. this is a live look from our pier 39 camera. this group has gotten even bigger with a new all time record of more than 2000 sea lions at the pier. that's the most in 30 years. pier employees say that the sea lions gather there for a feast of anchovies in the area. a fun fact a group of sea lions in the water is called a raft. but if they're on land, we call them a colony. >> okay, another fun fact they're almost always all male. really? here in san francisco? >> oh, yeah. >> they go. they meet their females down in southern california. they breed. the females have their babies down in southern california, and then the males come right back up here and they lounge. oh so you might count what you say a raft or a colony or a colony or deadbeat dads, whatever you want to call them. >> i don't want that for them. >> bachelors.
