I've used coconut oil for some time (over +yr) as a pre-treatment from Sheaterra Organics which is pretty pure and smells delicious but i have to admit my hair did not benefit nor did it hurt it from using coconut oil But it works great on my son who has extremely dry hair after I wash and condition his hair, I use it as a leave in

Thanks "J". Just ordered some. Will definitely keep these links in mind for future needs. I get the feeling I'll be a breezin' through this stuff.

I apply it to my hair after I cowash, I like the shine. It irritates my eyes and the first day I used it it was running down my face and staining my shirt like I had a Jherri Curl....not a good look.

I use it on my hair and on DD's hair. I did not know about the hair darkening thing, though.

I use parachute coconut oil does not smell like Vatika but I'm sure you get the same benefits. Before I became a part of this forum I read of the benefits of using coconut oil and scalp massages I attribute it to less breakage, good conditioner, and some visiable hair growth.
My regi: pre-poo hair treated with coconut oil, ojon shampoo/conditioner, ojon for wrap
roller wrap and minimun hair manipulation. I only take my hair down when it is necessary.

I coconut oil...I only use it on my scalp once a week and it leaves my eczema ridden scalp hydrated (even after I cowash)

I love coconut oil. I use virgin, monoi and Vatika oils. I use it as a sealant after washing and in pre-poos.

How did your mother use it on you? Was it on wet hair/skin or dry? You can get it cheaper at a halal store, just FYI.
She used it on wet and dry hair and all over my body for an afterbath moisturizer. Wet hair for braiding and dry hair as a little shine enhancer. Either dry skin for a massage or damp skin for moisture.
I have seen pure coconut oil at the Desi (Indo/Pakistani) halal stores for really reasonable but I wouldn't purchase it there personally. Halal stores are a good place to get Vatika oils though.

My friend gets it for me from the Phillipines. I mix it with Giovanni's Direct Leave in!

I use pure coconut oil. You can buy at any health food store or a GNC. The one I use is organic and unrefined. Spectrum is a really good one.

I use the Parachute brand. I love the smell. Right now I'm mixing it in with my Ovation and Mega-Tek mix. I also add some black castor oil as well. Love everything about castor oil. I also use it as a pre-poo when I am wearing my hair natural. Righ now I'm in a full sew in.

I love coconut oil! I stock up on this everytime i go to the Philippines. My family there make their own coconut oil and use it as a pre-poo treatment and leave-in when they have dry hair.

Now, that sounds good. I'm going to do a MT, JBCO, and coconut oil mixture starting today and see how I like it.

Your family make their own coconut oil? Golly you're lucky. Do they scent it at all?

I mix it with olive oil and put it on my ends after I wash and condition my hair. I put a plastic cap over and sit under a dryer. After about 10 min I rinse with cold water.

Coconut oil is the bomb! I just hate when it gets hard, but that's taken care of easily, all I do is put the container in some hot water!
