The union paid for the' costs of entering 200 individuals It's no longer news that the Olympic Games are coming to New York State. But some people may ask which Olympic Games you mean. Lake Placid may be preparing for the 1980 Winter Olympic Games, but there is a statewide effort focusing on another international event to be held at the State University College at Brockport.

The 1979 International Summer Special Olympics are scheduled for Aug. 8-13 at Brockport, marking the first time the games have been held in the state. More than 3,500 mentally hand icapped youngsters will participate in this fifth annual event. It drew 1,000 individuals at its 1968 inaugural in Chicago. They will come from all 50 states, District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and 30 foreign countries, including Communist Poland.

Their motto will be: "Let me win but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt." For many of these youngsters, it will be the thrill of a lifetime. Four individuals from Area 15, Chemung, Steuben, Schuyler and Tioga counties, will be selected to participate in the international are competing against their peers." Competition was held in track and field, swimming, gymnastics, physical fitness, Frisbee, bowling, table tennis, tennis and wheel-, chair events. "I felt good," said a happy Pamela Whipple of Elmira, who won second and third-place finishes in Frisbee competition. The international meet will feature similar events in addition to a one-day trip for all participants to Niagara Falls and Ft. Niagara.

"I can't understand why they'd give us that if they couldn't pay it." Signs that the company has been struggling with its payroll have been showing up for the last two months, Manwaring said.
